Truck Rate Report Washington, DC September 30, 2020 USDA - Specialty Crops Market News Contact: Patty Willkie 202-365-6701 WA_FV190 FRUIT AND VEGETABLE TRUCK RATE REPORT, WEEK ENDING TUESDAY SEPTEMBER 29 2020 Rates quoted represent open (spot) market sales that shippers or receivers pay, depending on basis of sale, per load, including brokers' fees for shipments in truck load volume to a single destination. Extra charges for delivery to terminal markets, multi-pickup and multi-drop shipments are not included unless otherwise stated. Rates are based on the most usual loads in 48-53 foot refrigerated trailers from the origin shipping area to the destination receiving city. The ten cities of destination are Atlanta, Georgia; Baltimore, Maryland; Boston, Massachusetts; Chicago, Illinois; Dallas, Texas; Los Angeles, California; Miami, Florida; New York, New York; Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; and Seattle, Washington. A shortage of trucks was reported for the following commodities: melons from Southeast Missouri, melons from Maryland, Delaware and Eastern Shore Virginia, potatoes from Upper Valley, Twin Falls-Burley District Idaho, onions from Idaho and Malheur County Oregon, melons from Southwest Indiana and Southeast Illinois, potatoes from Big Lake and Central Minnesota, sweet potatoes from Eastern North Carolina, melons from North Carolina, potatoes and onions from Columbia Basin Washington, and potatoes from Central Wisconsin. A slight shortage of trucks was reported for the following commodities: potatoes from Big Lake and Central Minnesota, limes, mangos, tomatoes, broccoli, mixed fruits and vegetables from Mexico Crossings through Texas, and watermelons from Texas. All other districts reported an adequate supply of trucks. A First Report was issued for apples from Michigan. A Last Report was issued for the following commodities: melons from Delaware, Maryland, and Eastern Shore Virginia, melons from Southwest Indiana and Southeast Illinois, and melons from North Carolina.
