Special note: The Browning family has sold the F & T Livestock Market to local cattlemen Alphonse Dames and his wife Katie. The livestock market, originally located in the city limits of Palmyra, held their first sale on Monday, August 10, 1934. The current Browning’s grandfather, W.L.(Fat) Browning, began working for the market as an auctioneer in 1945. In 1952 he purchased part interest in the operation, and in 1961 the Browning family became the sole owners. By the late ‘70s the business had outgrown their downtown Palmyra location, and on Monday, November 27, 1978 the first sale was held at their present location along Highway 24 South of Palmyra. No changes to the sale are planned at this time with a special feeder sale next week, and the Browning family still working at the market to ensure a smooth transition in the months ahead.
