     Whey Protein Concentrate - Central and Western U.S.

     The bottom of the whey protein concentrate 34% price range moved upwards as the top of the
     range and both ends of the mostly price series held steady. Industry contacts report that
     there was a bit more buyer activity this week for WPC 34% near the bottom of the published
     price range. This has helped clear some inventory of the types of WPC 34% that are
     interchangeable with other dairy proteins. Supplies of WPC 34% used in higher value
     applications are still very tight. Demand for WPC 34% used in these applications is strong,
     even as demand is mixed for the higher whey protein concentrations. Production of WPC 34%
     is steady to lower. A few manufacturers report pulling back on cheese production or selling
     more condensed liquid whey protein concentrate. As a result, those manufacturers have a bit
     less WPC 34% to offer to buyers.
