     Whey Protein Concentrate - Central and Western U.S.

     Prices for whey protein concentrate 34% moved higher at the top of both the price range and
     mostly price series while staying unmoved at the bottom of each series. Prices reported by
     contacts seem to suggest a widening gap between prices for WPC 34% that is interchangeable
     with other protein sources and WPC 34% that is used in infant formula, sports nutrition, or
     other specific applications. Industry contacts say demand is active and supplies tight for
     the favored brands of WPC 34%. However, the interchangeable WPC 34% is more available, and
     manufacturers are having more difficulty in attracting buyer interest. WPC 34% production
     is steady but a bit subdued as compared to the production of higher whey protein
     concentrations.
