Placement and marketing estimates refer to the month of April. Cattle on Feed Up 1 Percent in 7 Monthly States Cattle and calves on feed for slaughter market in the 7 States preparing monthly estimates totaled 8.79 million head, up 1 percent from a year ago and up 5 percent from May 1, 1993. This is the largest May inventory for the 7 States since 1973. Placements in feedlots during April totaled 1.44 million, 1 percent above 1994 and 8 percent above 1993. Net placements of 1.36 million for April were up 2 percent from last year and 13 percent above 1993. Marketings during April totaled 1.56 million, down 3 percent from a year ago and 1 percent below 1993. Other disappearance during April was 80,000 head, 2 percent below last year and 37 percent below 1993. Cattle on Feed in 1,000+ Capacity Feedlots Up 3 Percent Cattle and calves on feed May 1, 1995 for the 7 States in the feedlots with 1,000 or more head capacity totaled 7.97 million head, 3 percent above May 1, 1994 and 10 percent above May 1, 1993.
