Placement and marketing estimates refer to the month of May. Cattle on Feed up 4 Percent in 7 Monthly States Cattle and calves on feed for slaughter market in the 7 States preparing monthly estimates totaled 8.63 million head, up 4 percent from a year ago and up 3 per- cent from June 1, 1993. Placements in feedlots during May totaled 1.74 million, 23 percent above 1994 but 3 percent below 1993. Net placements of 1.67 million for May was up 26 percent from last year and virtually unchanged from 1993. Marketings during May totaled 1.83 million, up 8 percent from a year ago and 9 percent above 1993. This is the largest May marketings since the current 7 State series began in 1972. Other disappearance during May was 71,000 head, 23 percent below last year and 48 percent below 1993. Cattle on Feed in 1,000+ Capacity Feedlots Up 6 Percent Cattle and calves on feed June 1, 1995 for the 7 States in the feedlots with 1,000 or more head capacity totaled 7.91 million head, 6 percent above June 1, 1994 and 8 percent above June 1, 1993.
