MD_DA640 Nonfat Dry Milk - Western U.S. Report 6 - Released on February 10, 2022 Low/medium heat nonfat dry milk (NDM) prices moved higher at the bottom of the range, while the top of the range is unchanged. Both ends of the mostly price series shifted higher, in the West, this week. Market prices for NDM have moved 6.75 cents higher on the CME, since last Wednesday. Domestic demand for low/medium heat NDM is steady. International demand is strengthening; purchasers from Mexico are, reportedly, buying loads in advance of late Q1 and early Q2 needs. Spot purchasers say that availability is unchanged. Port congestion and a shortage of available truck drivers are causing delays to load deliveries throughout the region. Low/medium heat NDM production is steady, but below capacity. Plant managers say that milk is available for production, but that delayed deliveries of production supplies and labor shortages are preventing them from running busier schedules. Production of high heat NDM is limited, as drying operations focus on the production of low/medium heat. Demand for high heat NDM is steady, while spot inventories remain tight. The price range for high heat NDM is unchanged at the bottom, though the top has shifted 1 cent higher. The January 2022 Dairy Market News monthly average for the West low/medium heat nonfat dry milk mostly series is $1.7090 compared to $1.1632 a year ago.
