MD_DA640 Nonfat Dry Milk - Western U.S. Report 29 - Released on July 21, 2022 Domestic demand for low/medium heat nonfat dry milk (NDM) is steady in the West, though export demand has continued to soften. Contacts say that declining prices for skim milk powder at recent Global Dairy Trading (GDT) events have contributed to declining international interest for NDM. Amid lighter demand, the price range and mostly price series for low/medium heat NDM have slid lower this week. Meanwhile, market prices for NDM have fallen by 5 cents, on the CME, since last Wednesday. Loads of low/medium heat NDM are available for spot purchasing. Despite seasonal declines in milk production, condensed skim remains available for drying operations. Production of low/medium heat NDM is unchanged; plant managers say labor shortages continue to limit their ability to run full schedules. Drying operation schedules are being focused on the shorter drying time of low/medium heat NDM, limiting high heat production. Demand for high heat NDM is limited, and spot inventories are tight. The high heat NDM price range slid lower this week, in sync with low/medium heat NDM prices.
