MD_DA230 Fluid Milk and Cream - Central U.S. Report 46 - Released on November 14, 2019 Milk output is steady to lower, regionally, compared to last week. When compared to last year, milk levels are steady even with fewer cows. The largest concerns right now, among dairy farmer contacts, are the eventual forage and feed conditions. Wet/cold grounds have hampered corn harvests in large areas of the upper Midwest. In the near term, farmers are hopeful for a warmer, less winter-like, weekend ahead to make a larger dent in the already- delayed harvest. Reports on bottling ranged from steady to lackluster. Cheesemakers are beginning to report more discounted spot milk loads regionally. There were some overages reported as well, but the overall trend points to more milk available for Class III producers. Cream availability reports were mixed. Some butter makers reported widely available cream from local and Western suppliers. However, other butter makers said cream was still available, but showing signs of upcoming tightness. Some contacts suggest a slighter availability may be due to last-minute holiday demand pushes into Class III production. Cream suppliers and buyers are wrapping up 2020 contracts. They say cream prices in 2020 will generally hover around the same as during 2019.
