MD_DA230 **** Correction to Report on Thursday, January 30, 2020 **** Fluid Milk and Cream - Central U.S. Report 5 - Released on January 30, 2020 UPDATED: Price Range - Class III Milk; $/CWT; Spot Basis updated in report. Fluid milk output is steady in the region. Winter storms in the upper Midwest last week brought on a mostly mild and dry(er) week. Therefore, cow comfort has been mostly positive this season. Farmers are finishing up their end-of-year reports for 2019. They say financially, 2019 was much improved when compared to the previous years. That said, they also report the next few years are going to be difficult to maintain unless milk prices remain closer to where they have been in recent months. Some Wisconsin farmers reported increases in overall production with fewer cows on hand. Interestingly, butterfat percentages were flat to down while other components increased for some dairy farmers. Bottling demand is steady this week. Cheese producers are busy, as discounts remain for the most part on the spot milk market. Cream is widely available. Cream end users have options. If local sources are not offering cream at attractive rates, the West and mountain states are full-up currently. Accordingly, cream multiples/prices slid this week. Regarding feed, there remains some concern among a number of Midwestern contacts regarding the potential quality of corn/beans from the previous season's harvest.
