MD_DA230 Fluid Milk and Cream - Central U.S. Report 3 - Released on January 16, 2020 Milk yields are up week to week and year to year. Contacts from the north to the southern Central region convey similar viewpoints: the mild start of the winter is leading to higher milk supplies. South Central farmers report mostly positive and abundant feed yields, where Midwestern farmers suggest hit/miss on overall feed quality, variant from one farm to the next. Bottlers are back at it following the break, easing some pressure for milk handlers. Cheese production is astir, as is seasonally expected. Some cheese plant managers say they are back to seven-day workweeks. Cream prices edged higher, even with a consensus of cream suppliers/buyers relaying readily available supplies. Some plants which were down for maintenance are back online, therefore the supply/demand ratio balanced a little from the previous few weeks. Cream end users continue to relay that Western suppliers are still competitive with locally sourced cream, even with additional freight costs. Undoubtedly, Western cream supplies remain accessible. Butter makers suggest cream supplies are expected to remain as such for the next two to three weeks, if not longer.
