MD_DA230 Fluid Milk and Cream - Central U.S. Report 27 - Released on July 08, 2021 Dairy farm contacts in the Midwest say each month of 2021 has surpassed the previous year's figures on overall output. Although component levels have begun to slip, milk yields continue at fairly strong levels moving deeper into the summer. Silage, according to some, is tight. Hay bunkers are full, and the hay quality has been notably good. Class I orders remain seasonally lackluster. With very limited school orders, with the exception of summer programs, food service orders are unremarkable. Retail orders vary by state. Cheese producers, following a somewhat active previous week, are less than enticed even with prices at somewhat steep discounts. $6 to $4 under Class make the range this week. For the past two years, during week 27, prices have reached Class III or slightly over Class on the top end. Still, some cheese plant managers relay they are unable to take on any extra milk as internal supplies are fulfilling their needs, particularly with labor shortage reports growing in regularity. Cream is available after the holiday weekend. Demand has not resumed to normalcy yet, according to cream handlers. Butter plant managers reported finding cream at multiples similar to previous weeks, but some have relayed overall availability was lighter. The DMN monthly average of the range price series for Upper Midwest Class II cream during June was $2.3705, compared to $2.4217 in May.
