MD_DA230 Fluid Milk and Cream - Central U.S. Report 30 - Released on July 25, 2019 Milk production has tightened markedly throughout the region. High humidity and heat indexes in the triple digits in the upper Midwest have put a clamp on farm milk output. Class I sales remain slower, seasonally. Some milk handlers say they are expecting pickups among bottlers in roughly three weeks¶ time. Class III sales are higher. Although a number of cheesemakers are using internally sourced milk, others are trying to stay ahead of slighter/lightening milk supplies and most are paying over flat Class for extra spots. Cream supplies are mirroring those of milk. Butter makers in the Midwest suggest they are unable to take on cream at current prices, but churners in the southern portion continue to have access to deals. Ice cream manufacturing is seasonally busy, particularly soft serve makers. Cream suppliers in the upper Midwest suggest there is simply not enough to go around. Field/crop conditions vary widely in the Midwest. Contacts suggest a drive from Minnesota down through Wisconsin will give you crop conditions that traverse the spectrum.
