United States and Canadian Cattle Inventory Up 2 Percent All cattle and calves in the United States and Canada combined totaled 111.4 million head on July 1, 2015, up 2 percent from the 109.6 million on July 1, 2014. All cows and heifers that have calved, at 44.5 million head, were up 1 percent from 2014. All cattle and calves in the United States as of July 1, 2015, totaled 98.4 million head, 2 percent above the 96.3 million on July 1, 2014. All cows and heifers that have calved, at 39.8 million head, were up 2 percent from 2014. All cattle and calves in Canada as of July 1, 2015, totaled 13.0 million head, down 2 percent from the 13.3 million on July 1, 2014. All cows and heifers that have calved, at 4.72 million, were down 3 percent from a year ago.
