     Casein - National Casein Report for U.S. Imports

     Report 19 - Released on May 13, 2021


     The price ranges for both acid casein and rennet casein firmed. This is consistent with
     trends of other dairy powders. Continuing casein price strength is expected in coming weeks.
     Some New Zealand acid casein manufacturers noted significant price strength in spot markets
     during the last week. Factors mentioned included a recent re-focus on sending available milk
     to WMP plants, as well as the pending end of the milk production season.

     Rennet casein price increases in Western Europe were gentler than with acid casein. In
     Western Europe seasonal milk production is nearing the peak. Disappointing early 2021 milk
     production is increasing and easing concerns about the ability to maintain suitable volumes
     of casein production. Ireland, a primary rennet casein producer, has reported significant
     2021 milk production increases. As Q4 2021 contracting continues, even higher rennet pricing
     seems to be lying ahead.

     Ireland, a top rennet casein producer, recently reported that March 2021 milk production
     increased 13.5 percent from March 2020 according to CLAL data made available to USDA.
     January – March 2021 milk production increased 9.5 percent over January – March 2020.
