     Casein - National Casein Report for U.S. Imports

     Report 12 - Released on March 24, 2022


     Both acid casein and rennet casein firmed at the low end of the price ranges but remained
     steady at the tops. Casein buyers are said to be increasingly desperate seeking out casein.
     Almost all current production is committed. Stocks on hand are low. It is an extremely tight
     market. With February New Zealand milk production just reported lower YOY in New Zealand,
     sources believe tightness may get tighter.

     During January 2022, casein imports from New Zealand remained nearly steady while imports
     from Ireland nearly tripled. Ireland is the top single source for imported casein to the
     United States.

     Restricted, All Mesh Sizes, Conventional, and Edible Casein

     United States casein imports during January 2022, 7,000 MT, increased 48.9 percent from
     January 2021 according to CLAL data made available to USDA. The four top sources and
     percentage changes during January 2022 are New Zealand, 2,207 MT, +1.71 percent; Ireland,
     3,134 MT, +191 percent; France, 674 MT, +25.89; and India, 409 MT, +392 percent.
