     Casein - National Casein Report for U.S. Imports

     Report 31 - Released on August 03, 2023

     The price range for rennet casein held steady this week, but acid casein prices decreased on
     both ends of the range. Stakeholders say extreme temperatures in southern parts of Europe
     continue to have a negative impact on milk output. Rennet casein production has declined in
     Europe, as contacts report tighter milk availability. Contacts report limited spot market
     activity has likely prevented rennet casein inventories from growing tighter, despite recent
     declines in production. Acid casein production is steady in Oceania. Meanwhile, industry
     sources indicate milk output is trending higher in parts of South America, allowing for an
     increase in acid casein production. Demand for acid casein is soft and some contacts report
     export demand from New Zealand is down compared to a year ago. Spot loads of acid casein are
     available for purchasing.
