     Casein - National Casein Report for U.S. Imports

     Report 3 - Released on January 19, 2023

     Prices for both acid and rennet casein varieties were unchanged this week. Market contacts
     report that the anticipated early Q1 inventory growth has not translated into lower prices,
     at least not yet, but they report that casein markets could, at least slightly, resemble
     other dairy commodity markets' in their recent bearishness. As with other dairy commodities,
     China's recent trend of less active importing is expected to pressure the entire market.
     Additionally, European contacts say even intracontinental buyers have grown more patient.
     Still, though, U.S. interests and what will be available from New Zealand are unclear for
     the near and mid term. All said, acid and rennet casein markets are unassured.
