MD_DA751 Casein - National Casein Report for U.S. Imports Report 19 - Released on May 11, 2023 Prices for casein, both rennet and acid varieties, saw a sharp decline this week, as more prices were reported than in a number of report weeks. Contacts say Irish milk output and availability have increased, and therefore rennet processing has increased in lockstep. New Zealand's seasonal milk production provided processors with more milk at the end of Q1, and casein production has been a focus for processors since Q1 due to its relative price bullishness. All said, markets are under some pressure, but demand notes remain intact. There are expectations that eventual U.S. domestic production could keep price increases, like 2022's bullish runup, at bay.
