     Casein - National Casein Report for U.S. Imports

     Report 24 - Released on June 17, 2021


     The rennet casein price range increased. The acid casein price range remained steady. New
     Zealand acid casein production has largely been sold for a while. What is being made now is
     committed. New season casein is not expected to become available until about Q4 2021. That
     leaves acid casein markets with little current sales activity related to moving prices.

     Rennet casein markets are more active. Production in Western Europe remains ongoing and
     buyers remain engaged in contracting. Supplies are a bit tight. Export demand is up. Some
     sources mention that higher caseinate prices have driven some buyers toward casein as a
     lower priced alternative. This demand elasticity further tests rennet casein supply
     availability.

     Restricted, All Mesh Sizes, Conventional, and Edible Casein

     EU casein(ate) exports January – April 2021, 28,792 MT, increased 6.3 percent from January
     – April 2021 according to Eucolait. The top three main export destinations and percent of
     the total for Q1 2021 are United States, 28 percent; Mexico, 10.5 percent; and China, 6.8
     percent.
