This biannual report contains the inventory numbers and values of all cattle and calves, number of operations and size group estimates by class and state, as well as for the entire United States. Also included are statistics on cattle on feed and grazing on small grain pasture, as well as calf crop data.

This report is a cooperative effort of the National Agricultural Statistics Service and the Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service's Veterinary Services division, including non-ambulatory cattle and calf totals by region, weight category, and type of operation. It provides data on number of head and total value of cattle and calves lost by cause, as well as a percentage of predator and non-predator losses by predator and type, respectively.

This annual report contains price reactions to the U.S. Department of Agriculture's (USDA) Cattle on Feed, Quarterly Hogs and Pigs, and Milk Production reports. Contained in the report are annual and quarterly increases and decreases in prices in the week prior to release and week after release for cattle, hogs, butter, barrel cheddar, and block cheddar. This report does not imply that NASS reports are solely responsible for changes to the price level for commodities referenced in the publication. The price level for any commodity can potentially be affected by other information available to the market at that time but ultimately is determined by supply and demand.

This full-text report provides the annual balance sheet and income estimates for cattle and hogs. Releases prior to 2012 also include estimates for sheep. Statistics included are estimates of beginning and ending inventories, births, deaths, inshipments, marketings, and ending inventories; also total production and marketings in pounds, average prices, value of production, cash receipts, home consumption, and gross marketings by state and U.S., for previous years.
